At St John Fisher Catholic Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to flourish and achieve their full potential.
The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided to schools to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils. We use this funding strategically to remove barriers to learning, raise attainment, accelerate progress and ensure that disadvantaged pupils have access to the same high-quality opportunities and experiences as their peers.
Our priorities for 2026–2027
Our Pupil Premium strategy is closely aligned with our School Development Plan and focuses particularly on:
improving attainment and progress in reading and writing
providing consistently high-quality teaching through our St John Fisher Pedagogy, including effective questioning, oracy, pace and responsive teaching
identifying individual barriers to learning quickly and accurately
providing effective, evidence-informed intervention where required
supporting pupils with overlapping SEND and disadvantage
improving attendance and reducing persistent absence where this presents a barrier to learning
supporting pupils’ social, emotional and pastoral needs
ensuring disadvantaged pupils participate fully in the wider life of our school, including enrichment, leadership, educational visits and extra-curricular opportunities.
High-quality teaching
High-quality teaching is central to our approach. We recognise that excellent classroom teaching has the greatest potential to improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.
Teachers carefully assess pupils’ starting points, identify gaps in knowledge and adapt teaching appropriately. Pupil progress is monitored closely so that additional support can be introduced promptly when required.
Targeted academic support
Where pupils require additional help, carefully selected interventions and targeted support are provided. These may include additional support in reading, phonics, spelling, writing and mathematics.
Interventions are monitored to ensure that they are having a positive impact and are adapted or discontinued when they are no longer required.
Wider strategies
We recognise that barriers to achievement are not always academic. Our approach therefore considers the needs of the whole child.
Support may include pastoral provision, attendance support, developing positive relationships and behaviour, supporting emotional wellbeing and enabling pupils to participate fully in enrichment opportunities and the wider life of the school.
Monitoring impact
School leaders, teachers and governors regularly monitor the attainment, progress, attendance, engagement and wider outcomes of disadvantaged pupils.
We continually evaluate the impact of our Pupil Premium provision and use this information to refine our approach and ensure funding is directed towards strategies that make the greatest difference.
Our ambition is clear: disadvantage should never be a barrier to achievement, participation or aspiration at St John Fisher.
Through our Catholic mission and commitment to the dignity of every child, we aim to ensure that all pupils are supported to care, learn, grow and flourish.
