Safeguarding at St John Fisher Catholic Primary
At St John Fisher Catholic Primary School, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We want our school to be a happy, welcoming and nurturing place where every child feels safe, valued, respected and listened to, and where they are able to learn, grow and thrive.
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. We have clear policies, procedures and systems in place to help keep children safe, both in school and beyond. All staff receive regular safeguarding training and understand their responsibility to recognise and respond to concerns about a child's safety or wellbeing.
We work closely with children, families and other professionals and agencies to ensure that children receive the right support at the right time. If you have a concern about the safety or wellbeing of a child, please speak to a member of our safeguarding team.
Operation Encompass
St John Fisher Catholic Primary School participates in Operation Encompass, a national police and education safeguarding partnership designed to provide timely support to children who experience domestic abuse.
Children can be significantly affected by domestic abuse, even when they are not directly involved in an incident. Operation Encompass ensures that, following a police-attended domestic abuse incident involving a child, information can be shared securely with the school's trained Key Adult before the start of the next school day. This enables us to respond sensitively and provide appropriate support as soon as the child arrives at school.
The information shared allows us to consider the individual needs and wishes of the child and to ensure that they feel safe, supported and listened to. It also helps school staff understand when a child may need additional emotional or pastoral support.
Our Operation Encompass Key Adults
Our trained Key Adults are:

- Mrs C Smith – Pastoral Lead and Designated Safeguarding Lead
All information shared through Operation Encompass is treated sensitively and confidentially and is managed in line with safeguarding and data protection requirements.
Operation Encompass is now established across all police forces in England and Wales and has been placed on a statutory footing.
