Our School Saint - St. John Fisher
St. John Fisher
Our Patron Saint: St John Fisher
St John Fisher (1469–1535) was a man of deep faith, learning, and courage, whose life continues to inspire Christians today. Born in England, he became Bishop of Rochester and was renowned as a scholar, pastor, and defender of the Church. At a time of great political and religious turmoil, St John Fisher remained steadfast in his loyalty to Christ and the teachings of the Catholic Church.
A gifted academic, St John Fisher served as Chancellor of the University of Cambridge and was a passionate advocate for education, believing that faith and reason work hand in hand. He supported learning not only for clergy but for all, encouraging integrity, wisdom, and the pursuit of truth. His life reminds us of the importance of using our gifts in service of others and standing firm in our beliefs.
St John Fisher is best remembered for his courageous witness. He refused to accept King Henry VIII as head of the Church in England and, as a result, was imprisoned and executed in 1535. Canonised as a saint and martyr, he stands as a powerful example of faithfulness, moral courage, and commitment to conscience, even in the face of great personal cost.
As our patron saint, St John Fisher inspires us to live with integrity, to seek truth through learning, and to remain faithful to God in all circumstances.
