Catholic Life
Catholic Life and Mission
At St John Fisher Catholic Primary School, our Catholic identity is at the heart of all that we do. Guided by our mission statement, “With God’s love, we are a family, caring, learning and growing together,” we seek to live out the teachings of Jesus Christ in every aspect of school life. As Scripture reminds us, “Let all that you do be done in love” (1 Corinthians 16:14). We are a welcoming, inclusive and faith-filled community where every child is known, valued and cherished as a unique creation of God.
Our Mission and Values
Our mission statement underpins the daily life of St John Fisher Catholic Primary School and shapes our relationships, decisions and aspirations. With God’s love at the centre, we nurture a strong sense of family, where pupils, staff, parents and governors work together in a spirit of mutual respect and compassion. In the words of Scripture, “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity” (Psalm 133:1).
Gospel values such as love, forgiveness, service, justice and respect are explicitly taught, modelled and celebrated. Pupils are encouraged to care for one another and to develop a love of learning, reflecting Jesus’ command to “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34). Through this, pupils grow spiritually, morally and academically.
Catholic Life of the School
Prayer and worship are central to our identity and daily practice. Pupils at St John Fisher Catholic Primary School experience a rich variety of prayer opportunities, including daily classroom prayer, regular collective worship and liturgical celebrations linked to the Church’s liturgical year. Pupils are increasingly involved in planning and leading worship, enabling them to grow in confidence and deepen their relationship with God. As Scripture teaches, “Where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (Matthew 18:20).
We are blessed to work in close partnership with St Wilfred’s Parish and are supported by Fr Mark at St John Fisher Church, whose guidance and presence enrich the spiritual life of the school. This strong parish link helps pupils to understand that they belong to a wider family of faith and supports their ongoing faith journey beyond the school community.
The school environment reflects our Catholic mission through sacred spaces, meaningful displays and an atmosphere of reverence and reflection, encouraging pupils to “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).
Religious Education
Religious Education is a core subject and is taught with the same rigour and importance as all other curriculum areas. Through high-quality, engaging teaching, pupils develop a secure understanding of the Catholic faith, rooted in Scripture and Church teaching. Pupils are encouraged to ask questions, reflect deeply and make connections between faith and life, supporting them to “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).
Respect for other faiths and worldviews is actively promoted, enabling pupils to develop understanding, tolerance and compassion.
Service and Social Responsibility
Inspired by Catholic Social Teaching, pupils are encouraged to put faith into action by caring for others. Through charitable fundraising, outreach projects and acts of service, pupils learn the importance of justice, solidarity and compassion. As Jesus teaches, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40).
These experiences help pupils to recognise their responsibility to serve others and contribute positively to the local and global community.
Leadership and Community
Leaders and governors at St John Fisher Catholic Primary School are deeply committed to ensuring that the school’s mission — “With God’s love, we are a family, caring, learning and growing together” — is visible, lived and celebrated. Staff are supported in their role as witnesses to faith, and strong partnerships with parents, St Wilfred’s Parish, and Fr Mark at St John Fisher Church ensure that the Catholic life and mission of the school continue to flourish.
